Our Remodeling and New Construction Design Process

Introduction

Below are our design processes for remodeling and new construction projects. Each has a list of simple steps to get you from the initial design to the completion of the entire project.

Remodel Design Process

Hurray! You’ve decided to remodel! Now what? It’s an excellent time to give us a call and make an appointment to meet with one of our designers. It’s not too early; you don’t have to know what you want- that’s what we’re here for.

Deciding on a Kitchen or Bathroom Remodel Project

 1)  Decide on a project. Whether this is a kitchen, bathroom, wetbar or entertainment center, the process is the same.
Make an appointment with a Custom Kitchen or Bath Designer
2)  Make an appointment with one of our designers. There are three designers that you can work with at Showcase. If you’ve been referred, you may have a preference. If not, we will match you with the designer who is most available at that time. We will determine whether to initially meet at the showroom, or at your home based on the project.
Measures Your Space for Your Renovation or Construction Project
3)  We’ll measure your space and get all the information that we can about your project. This is when you show us your pictures of projects that you like, tell us your budget (if you know) and give us any information that you think will help us to come up with the perfect design for you.
Custom Kitchen and Bathroom Project Design Meetings
4)  Typically we try to get back to you within a week with drawings and pricing to go over. We like to meet in the showroom so that we can show you samples and examples of what we have designed. We do not give out drawings but are happy to meet with you in the showroom to go over the plans as much as you like before you make the decision to purchase your cabinetry.
Perfecting and Finalizing Kitchen and Bathroom Designs
5)  We revise as needed and get the plans to perfection. We make final color selections and sample approvals. At this point we will also need appliance and plumbing information to get the order placed. We do not supply appliances or plumbing fixtures but are happy to give our input on what would be best for your design and can recommend some local appliance and plumbing showrooms.
Placing your Columbia Showcase Order
6)  We place the order! After the order is placed it usually takes about a week to have a delivery date. After we have that, we coordinate with the client, project manager and installer so that everyone knows when to be prepared for cabinetry. We will go over the plans with the installer and give him detailed drawings and instructions so that he is ready to start installing when the cabinetry arrives.
Columbia Showcase Cabinet Delivery

7)  The cabinets arrive and are delivered to the jobsite.
Beginning Your Custom Kitchen and Bathroom Installation
8)  Installation begins if everything is ready. We will check in on the project regularly and make sure that everything is being installed according to the plans. If you purchase your tops through Showcase, we will coordinate the template and meet the fabricators at the jobsite when the base cabinets are set and ready to go. Installation can take anywhere from 2-6 weeks. To learn more about installation, click here.
Finalizing Your Dream Kitchen or Bathroom Project

9)  Installation is finalized and the project is complete!

New Construction Design Process

Hurray! You’ve decided to build a house! You’ve got your plans drawn up and you are interviewing builders… It’s an excellent time to give us a call and make an appointment to meet with one of our designers. It’s not too early; you don’t have to have an allotted budget from your builder or have every detail about your house decided. We will help you understand which cabinet line is best suited for you and can get you an idea of cabinet cost early on so there are no surprises.

Scheduling Your New Construction Kitchen Design Appointment
1)  Make an appointment with one of our designers. There are three designers that you can work with at Showcase. If you’ve been referred, you may have a preference. If not, we will match you with the designer who is most available at that time.
New Construction Kitchen and Bathroom Design Meeting
2)  Meet in the showroom. At this time we will make copies of the parts of your floorplans that contain cabinetry if you don’t have an extra set. We will go over each room with you and listen to your design preferences and needs.
New Construction Kitchen Drawings and Pricing Review
3)  Typically we try to get back to you within a week with drawings and pricing to go over. We will show you samples and examples of what we have designed. We do not give out drawings but are happy to meet with you in the showroom to go over the plans as much as you like before you make the decision to purchase your cabinetry. If you decide that you want to purchase plans so that you can take them with you immediately, we can do that.
Revising New Construction Kitchen and Bathroom Design Plans

4)  We revise plans as needed until you are happy with the layouts and pricing.
Measuring New Construction Framing for Kitchen and Baths

5)  Once your new construction is underway, we typically like to go measure the framing once the roof is on and get the rough measurements.
Revising New Construction Drawings for Kitchen and Baths

6)  We will adjust the drawings as needed after this measure.
Laying Out the Your Dream Kitchen and Bath
7)  Next we lay out the kitchen (and any other room requested by the builder) on the subfloor. We mark centerlines for the plumber and literally draw the base cabinets as they will be in your space. This is helpful for the electrician as he does his walk-through with the builder and client and is a great way to get a feel for how the cabinets fit the space. At this point we will also need appliance and plumbing information to get the order placed. We do not supply appliances or plumbing fixtures but are happy to give our input on what would be best for your design and can recommend some local appliance and plumbing showrooms.
